Launched in 2011, the Aventador is the most powerful Lamborghini in the history of the transalpine brand. It needed a technical upgrade to stay in the arena of the great hypercars of this world, a merciless universe of ultra performance. The fighting bull now flanked by the letter S, a tradition since the Miura, for the evolutions of the V12 motor cars, also had to go through some aesthetic modifications to gain in both modernity and aerodynamics, with the appearance of 4 steering wheels.
No more Downsizing! The Aventador S remains in the DNA of its mechanical heritage. Still at 6.5 litres, the volume of the V12 remained the same! Lamborghini has not been tempted to upgrade its engine to gain some ecological complacency or satisfy those who advocate a radical change in the brand's philosophy, which would consist in switching to a turbo engine or hybridisation. A Lamborghini remains a Lamborghini. An assumed and respected traditionalism. Great for us.
Nobility is still at the heart of this new Lamborghini, phase II. The Aventador S, therefore, uses and abuses the atmospheric V12, which has now risen to 740 hp and has a maximum speed of 8,500 rpm. It perpetuates its sporting talent thanks to 40 additional hp compared to the first LP 700-4. The aventador S also changes aesthetically. A necessary get back into shape, it was necessary, six years without doing anything, it was a little long, even if Lamborghini offered us, in the meantime, a usual evolution in the production of its models with, in 2015, the release of the Aventador SV "Superveloce" developing 750 HP. We can imagine that a new SV version will quickly crown the performance of this new and ambitious Italian, spearheading a very high level of sophistication, at nearly 800 hp.

Four-wheel steering, the supercar standard.
Of course, the silhouette is that of an Aventador, there is no doubt about it, with its aeronautical surfaces, almost furtive, its trench lines, its monocoque chassis and its thermoformed carbon parts. The new Aventador S has an even more aggressive, almost "reptilian" appearance, with new front shields whose blades are used to improve air circulation and cooling. At the rear, the large Lamborghini wraps slightly revised optics, which cover ventilation grids, a reworked shield and diffuser. Support increases by 130% at the front and 50% at the rear. But it is in fact the chassis that is evolving in depth since it was necessary, in addition to a standard all-wheel drive with electronic differential, to integrate a new system of four steering wheels, a first on a standard Lamborghini, except for the "Centenario" which had it. This new situation seems to be unavoidable today for a few sharp manufacturers: almost everyone is getting into it, Porsche with its 911 Turbo, GT3 RS and 918 Spyder, Mercedes with its AMG GTR, Ferrari with its GTC4 Lusso.... And since, in practice, the four steering wheels seem to be widely accepted, Lamborghini has developed the same idea of having an antagonistic rotation of the wheels, at low speed, up to 3°, to improve handling; and the same, at high speed, of 1.5°, to eliminate understeer and thus ensure better stability in curves. At the same time, to achieve optimal performance, a number of organic elements have been modified, such as controlled damping, suspension geometry, more responsive ESC anti-skid (Lambo's ESP), and the "Strada", "Sport" and "Corsa" modes (road, sport and race) have been extended to more comfort on the road and more aggressive on the track. A new chassis adjustment mode, called EGO, is added to the three previous ones, which allows you to customize the responsiveness of the variable power steering, transmission, engine and damping.... 24 possible solutions! A real race car. Advanced settings that offer its future owners the assurance of precise and fabulously exhilarating pleasure. Even the torque distribution between front and rear has changed to offer a more "propulsion" philosophy in sporty driving!
Absolute character, increased pleasure, known performance.
With these clever modifications, this increased power, the Aventador S is gaining in character! However, the new and powerful bull keeps the same performances.... First of all, we must regret the lack of evolution of the 7-speed automated gearbox, still available with a simple clutch. With a dual clutch transmission, the Aventador S would have been much faster, but heavier. And even if it keeps the same weight, 1575 kg when dry, the S offers acceleration and reference times, already exceptional, identical to those of the first generation. It must be said that few cars are able to reach the 350 km/h mark today. It must be admitted that very few super-cars fall below the symbolic 3-second limit to reach 100 km/h (exactly 2.9s), and if you play with the times, few of them still reach 200 km/h in 8.8s, 300 km/h in 24.2s. It will probably be necessary to wait for the future SV superveloper to win the few tenths necessary for the immeasurable! In fact, it is in genetics that we will have to find a profound change: aggressive yes, brutal, always, always, characterful, certainly more so, as if the wise researchers of the Sant'Agata Bolognese firm had committed some well thought-out misdeeds to make it more aggressive than it already was! An aggressiveness, all in all, controlled but very real. This V12, with 690 nm of torque and 740 hp, carries all its technologies and its two happy occupants with terrifying rage. We live on board in immediacy. Everything is going too fast. But we listen, we are on the lookout, we necessarily like to tame this hyperactive Bull. The test on the track proposed by Lamborghini, in Valencia, Spain, allowed us to see this. Its pedigree is that of a racing car. The infernal rates imposed by the engine are staggering, to such an extent that you continue to drive with a constant car that improves over the kilometers. Dexterity is required, but it is not necessary to be an experienced pilot to understand this monument of sportsmanship.... It's almost easy to be efficient, it's just as easy to let yourself be overwhelmed by its ardour, by the ferocity of an outrageously generous rear axle. The secret, stay as calm as possible to ensure the entry of bends, and it will come out much faster, the four steering wheels bring lightness of use, the S turns more easily, it gains in dynamism despite some natural heaviness imposed by its size.... Hang on to the wheel, listen, play with the throttle, apply the brake, and let the rest pierce you with emotion. Sneer assured. The pleasure is unspeakable.
